The CFMEU is the largest construction
union in Australia representing the majority of tradespeople
and labourers.
The union has a
proud history of campaigning for better rates and working
conditions for building workers. The conditions that now
exist such as; amenities, decent wages, overtime rates of
pay, long service, superannuation and workers compensation
are the outcome of decades of struggle by union members.
The CFMEU is proud of its militant and progressive history.
We are also active in broader trade union and community
campaigns. We have assisted trade unions and workers in
other countries fighting for democratic and trade union
rights.
We have been
active in the anti-war movements. One of our greatest
achievements has been the placement of ‘green bans’ to
protect heritage buildings, parkland and open space.
